Nullabord

Die Nullarbor- Wueste (von lat. nullus arboris = "kein Baum", auch Nullarbor-Ebene) ist eine flache, weit ausgedehnte Karstwueste im südlichen Australien direkt an der Großen Australischen Bucht. Sie ist mit rund 200.000 Quadratkilometern das größte Stück Kalkstein der Welt. An ihrem breitesten Punkt dehnt sie sich über 1200 km von Osten nach Westen.
Der Eyre-Highway fuehrte uns von Port Augusta nach Norseman. Durch die flache Landschaft handelt es sich dabei mit 146,6 km um die längste völlig gerade befestigte Straße in Australien und die längste gerade Eisenbahnstrecke der Welt (478 km). Die Eisenbahn läuft direkt durch die Wüste, während der Eyre Highway nur die südlichen Teile tangiert.

The Nullarbor Plain is the vast area of flat, almost treeless, arid or semi-arid country immediately north of the Great Australian Bright. The word Nullarbor is derived from the Latin nullus for 'nothing' or 'no one' and arbor for 'tree', and is pronounced "NULL-uh-bore". The Aboriginal name for the area is 'Oondiri' meaning 'the waterless'. It is the world's largest single piece of limestone, and occupies an area of about 200,000 km² (77,200 sq miles). At its widest point, it stretches about 1,200 km from east to west between South Australia and Western Australia.
We drove on the Eyre-Highway from Port Augusta to Norseman. The railway line holds the record for the longest straight section of railway in the world (478 km), while the road contains the longest straight piece of tarred road surface in Australia (146.6 km). The railway drives directly through the desert, the Eyre Highway runs only in the southern parts close to the coast.

Im Nullarbor-Motel haben wir dann eine Nacht verbracht und dort Dingos gesehen. Die waren hier recht zutraulich. Einen Teil unseres zauberhaften Zimmers koennt ihr hinter dem Dingo erahnen. Ja, wir haben in einem Container uebernachtet und abgelaufenes Bier bekommen. Woanders hingehen ging da leider nicht mitten im Nichts. 500 km bis Port Augusta und 900 km bis Norseman.
We spent one night in the Nullarbor-Motel and there we have seen Dingos. They were really trusting here. You can see a part of our lovely apartment behind the Dingo. Yes we were sleeping in a Container and we got beer out of date. Unfortunately you can not go somewhere else in the middle of nowhere. 500 km to Port Augusta and 900 km to Norseman.


Am naechsten Tag haben wir uns dann noch Wale angeschaut und diese Kliffen, die steil ins Meer gehen. Es war schon eine interessante Erfahrung aber vor allem...
On the next day we could take a look at wales and thes kliffs which pluge down in the ocean. It was a very interesting experience but most of all...

... sooooooo laaaaaaaangweilig ... sooooooo booooooring.
