Tree planting

4 Wochen lang, 10,5 h am Tag habe ich Baeume gepflanzt und habe mich als einzige Frau durchschlagen muessen. Da kann ich mir Schlimmeres vorstellen. ;-)

Die Arbeit war sehr hart bis man sich dran gewoehnt hat aber das war es wert. Super liebe Gruppe und unglaublich viel Spass! Die meiste Zeit hat es geregnet und jeder von uns ist mal bis zum Knie im Matsch stecken geblieben was immer wieder fuer allgemeine Erheiterung gesorgt hat wenn man versucht hat wieder raus zu kommen.

Die meiste Zeit habe ich einheimische Setzlinge gepflanzt, aber auch Oliven, Gumtrees oder auch mal die Tree-guards aufgestellt.

4 weeks long, 10.5 h a day I planted trees and I was fighting my way through as the only woman there. I could imagine worse things. ;-)

The work was very hard until you got used to it but it was worth it. Very lovely group and unbelievable much fun. Most of the time it was raining and all of us sank in the mud at least once up to the knee and it was always a lot fun for the others when you where trying to get out.

Most of the time I was planting native seedlings, but also olive trees, gumtrees or setting up treeguards.

Grant war die meiste Zeit mein Supervisor. Mein Wortschatz hat sich dadurch sehr erweitert was allerdings nur schlimme Worte betrifft. Nichts fuer Weicheier aber ein guter Kerl.

Grant was my Supervisor most of the time. My vocabulary was expanding but that only contains swearing. GO AND GET F*** Nothing for ferrys. Great guy!

Cooking-Club. Dominik (irish), Stevey (irish), John (irish), Dennis (dutch), Colm (irish) and me. They are everywhere the irish. They were my family!!!

Auf jedenfall kann ich jetzt kochen und ich habe wahnsinnig viel gegessen. I learned how to cook and ate heaps.

Ewelina hat mich auch einmal besucht. Einmal weibliche Verstaerkung in der rauhen Maennerwelt ;-)

Ewelina was visiting me one weekend. It was good to have female support in the rough men world. ;-)

Zum Oliveplanting mussten wir dann nach York fuer etwa 1 Woche. For the olives we had to go to York for a week.

Stephanie and Soey. Die beiden haben im Hostel fuer uns gesorgt. Sehr lieb. They took care of us at the hostel. Very nice.

Gordon beim Planting. Die Pflanze wurde oben in den Pottiputki gesteckt, der dann in den Boden gerammt wurde. Mit einem Hebel wird die Erde dann auseinandergeschoben und die Pflanze faellt rein. Mit dem Fuss Erde ruebertreten und weiter.

Gordon planting. You put the plant in the hole at the top of the Pottiputki (short Potty), which got rammed in the ground. With your hand leever you open the mouth of the Potty which pushed the earth away and the plant falls in. Kick earth over and going to the next.

Freier Sonntag in Northam. So stark wie ich jetzt bin trag ich die Maenner rum...

... zumindest fuer eine Weile. ... at least for a while.

Zum Oliveplanting mussten erst diese Holzstaebe mit dem Hammer in den Boden geklopft werden. Alles genau in bestimmten Abstaenden. Ohne GPS garnicht so einfach.
For the planting we had to get the sticks in the ground with a hammer. Everything in one certain order. Not that easy without GPS.

Die Staebe wurden dann von den Maennern in den Boden gerammt. Ich hab mich mal an einem versucht aber dann lieber zugeschaut und den Anblick genossen.
The guys rammed the sticks in the ground. I tried it on one but then decided to watch and enjoy the view.


Danach wurde ein Loch geschaufelt, der Baum gepflanzt und mit Schnueren am Pfahl befestigt.

Die Saison ist vorbei, ich bin jetzt reich, hab mir das Auto und die 2 Chauffeure gekauft, die mich dann die Westkueste hochfahren.
The season is over now, I am rich and bought a car and 2 chaffeurs to drive me up the west coast.

Zumindest traeume ich davon. Aber wenigstens darf ich vorne sitzen.
I dream of that but at least I am allowed to sit in the front.
